Group decries plan to remove Film Corporation boss
A civil society group under the aegis of New Initiative for Credible Leadership has decried a deliberate conspiracy by some staff of the National Film Corporation (NFC), Jos to remove the Managing Director of the Corporation, Engineer Danjuma Wuri, despite his assurance that their grievance will be resolved.
The Executive Director of the group, Rev Steven Onwu described the protest as a sponsored act aimed at maligning the character of the MD of NFC for personal interest.
“The latest manifestation of this worrisome habit has cropped up at the National Film Corporation (NFC), Jos where the staff have staged a so called protest only that it is not a protest that was driven by national interest. They instead leveled series of accusations against the Managing Director of NFC, Engineer Danjuma Wuri.
“Our investigations have however revealed that the allegations are spurious and meant to tarnish the image of the Managing Director. We realised that he is not only innocent but that he has given his best in the service of NFC and the country. We found that the protests were just a component of a well-orchestrated campaign aimed at removing Engineer Wuri from office. Other components of this campaign include sponsored write ups and commissioned articles that were unleashed immediately in the aftermath of the protests”.
He described as worrisome the fact that students of the film institute were incorporated into the strike and their actions has crippled the organisation they claimed to be interested in its progress and also averred that influential people have been contacted to avail on the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to sack the MD stressing that the reason for the strike is not genuine.
He also recounted that despite the successful completion of promotion examination which was part of the grievance the strike has lingered thereby revealing it’s ingenuity.
“One of the things they based their grievances upon was delayed promotion but they have continued their belligerence even after they have successfully completed the promotion examination. This goes to show that there is more than meet the eyes in workers’ demands or agitation”, he said.
The group condemned in strong terms the baseless strike and the demand for leadership change calling to mind the fact the that the tenure of the Chief Executive is not over.
