Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has urged the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to deploy technology to secure the borders in Adamawa State to nip in the bud security challenges.
He stated this when he received the newly posted Comptroller of Immigration Adamawa State Command, Alh. Mohammed Adamu on a courtesy call in the Government House, Yola Thursday.
Governor Fintiri expressed concern with the porous borders in Adamawa, saying that the state has 9 LGAs bordering the Cameroon Republic among others, and sought urgent measures to properly secure them.
He disclosed that most of the elements of security breaches come from the porous borders most of whom are foreigners who perpetrate criminality in the state and the country.

The governor said the state government will leverage the experiences of the newly posted Comptroller to help Adamawa overcome security challenges bedeviling the residents.
He expressed glad with the reforms in the issuance of passports but asked the NIS to be cautioned not to register non- Nigerians as according to him, Adamawa has many foreigners who share many things in common with indigenes.
Earlier in his remarks, the Newly posted Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service, Adamawa State Command, Alh. Mohammed Adamu expressed happiness for being posted to the state and assured commitment to service delivery.
He thanks Governor Fintiri for the warm reception accorded him and the support being rendered to Nigeria Immigration Service such as the provision of operational vehicles within Adamawa and across Nigeria.
The Comptroller reassured his readiness to ensure tightening the state borders to enhance the security adding that Adamawa will no longer have challenges about passport scarcity.
He explained that part of the Command’s added responsibility is to monitor hotels and foreigners within local government areas and asked for collaboration with the government in that regard.
