Good Governance: Lagos taps from experience of top retired public servants

The Lagos state government says it has decided to assemble retired top public servants in the State, in order to tap from their diverse experiences with the aim of achieving good governance.
The state acting Head of Service, Mrs. Folasade Adeoye, who disclosed this at the maiden edition of Lagos State Retired Heads Of Service and Permanent Secretaries (ALARHOSPS) Day, said the forum was informed by government’s conviction that the diverse experiences of members would enrich the policy formulation development aspect of the state.

Adesoye pointed out that its decision to assemble them has since been vindicated.

“Members’ rich and diverse public service experience, their unique insight , objective perspectives and closer ties with their respective communities since retirement has without doubt, proved an invaluable resource for public policy development and governance generally.”

She added that the resolve of the retired civil servants to support the needy in the society remains a noble gesture which must be commended by all well-meaning individual and the society at large.

“I believe it will go a long way in ameliorating the needs of the less-privileged of the society and also serve as an example to emulate for others. It is for this reason that I must appreciate and commend the association’s recent visit to Modupe Cole Memorial Home for Children and the Old People’s Home, Yaba, to lend helping hands to the residents.”

Also speaking, the First Vice-President of ALARHOSPS, Alhaji Ajibola Olagbayi,  urged government to  ensure prompt payment of their entitlements.

Olagbayi, who lamented the shabby treatment of retired public servants across the country commended the Lagos State Government’s exemplary prioritization of the welfare of retirees by the prompt payment of their entitlements.

The veteran administrator charged employers across the country to treat the welfare of retired public servants as a constitutional matter and ensure they spend their retirement in comfort by getting what is due to them at the right time.
