God will not allow our people to remain in IDP camp – Gov Lalong

Plateau state Governor, Simon Lalong on Wednesday said God will not allow the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) to continue to remain in camp. Lalong stated this when distributing building materials procured by the state government for the returning IDPs. Speaking at the occasion in Jos Lalong, he said that he would organise a thanksgiving and party with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their ancestral homes when they fully return. The governor said that his administration was deeply concerned that the people were forced out of their homes. “God will not allow us to continue to keep our people in IDP camps. “Some have since return home and others are returning and when all of them are back we will hold a thanksgiving service,” he said. The governor stated that the building materials were to aid the people to reconstruct their homes. He said that the proposal for the intervention was brought to him by Chairman of IDPs in the state, Mr Francis Chong. According to him, the Federal Government was working towards resettling the people but the state cannot continue to wait why they suffer. Lalong directed the commissioners of works, housing and urban development to ensure that the challenges of the IDPs were given prompt attention. Mr Francis Chong, Chairman, IDPs said that they have taken delivery of 180 bundles of zinc, 80 bags of three inches nails and 80 bags of four inches nails. Others according to him, were 150 bags of cement, 500 bags of zinc nails, 600 pieces of 2×3 wood among others. Chong said that the materials would be shared among four communities of Buku, Ngwar, Tissan and Kura Berom.
