Glo’s Professor Johnbull receives NTA’s accolades

“Professor Johnbull,” the television drama series sponsored by Nigeria’s grandmasters of data, Globacom, has been adjudged as the “rave of the moment” by Africa’s largest television network, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
In the promo of the latest edition of TV Guide, NTA’s in-house magazine, Professor Johnbull was said to be on the radar of TV viewers globally, adding that the satire is the ‘rave of the moment’ out of all programmes on the network belt of the NTA.
Professor Johnbull is broadcast every Tuesday at 8.30 pm on NTA Network, NTA International and StarTimes, with repeat broadcasts every Fridays at 8.30 p.m. on the same television channels.
Minted and powered exclusively by Globacom, “Professor Johnbull” throws sardonic barbs at societal follies and foibles with the all -knowing, bombastic and erudite central character proffering workable solutions to the identified problems in his conclusions which ends every episode.
For instance, one of the episodes, A Good Flavor, which featured Nabania crooner, Chinedu Okoli, popularly called Flavour, extolled the virtues of humility, hard work and integrity devoid of insufferable ego trips and disrespect for others.
Another very interesting episode titled, African Time, featured Glo brand ambassador, Odunlade Adekola and criticised the evil of time wasting known in local parlance as ‘African Time’. The episode condemns the practice which has robbed humanity of profitable resources just as another remarkable episode entitled, Selfie Stick, featuring Yvonne Nelson who took the art of using selfie sticks for taking photographs to an exaggerated proportion and got hurt in the process.
In order to deliver the message of the sitcom in an entertaining way, the series is garnished with satire and couched in fluid language interlaced with local patois from the characters. The lead character, the Professor, an erudite scholar, takes delight in employing grandiloquent prose to deliver his homily.
Professor Johnbull is acted by Nollywood legend, Kanayo O. Kanayo, while other regular stars in the series include Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Queen Nwokoye, Bidemi Kosoko and Sayeed Mohammed a.k.a. Funky Mallam.
The series has also featured special appearances by characters like talented singer, Chinedu Okolie, popularly known as Flavour; resourceful comedian, Bovi Ugboma; Nollywood actress, Patience Ozorkwo; actor OC Ukeje and musician of Northern extraction, Sani Danja. Though they were on the sitcom just as visiting characters, these Globacom brand ambassadors made very remarkable appearances that added a lot of value to the series.
