Glo’s Professor Johnbull frowns at sudden wealth

In local parlance, the cliché “I don hammer” which means “I am rich” is widely used among the youths of today when they suddenly acquire wealth, regardless of the source.
The get-rich-quick syndrome has become very prevalent to an extent that people will do anything for money, yet no one bothers to query the source of the sudden wealth, which is the root cause of corruption in our modern-day society.
In this week’s edition of the Glo-sponsored sitcom, Professor Johnbull titled, ‘My Pikin Don Hammer,’ this social malaise comes to the fore, as it portrays the dire consequences of getting rich by all means possible.
This thought-provoking and intriguing episode, which was telecast on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday, teaches salient morals and harps on the need for parents to query the sources of wealth of their wards before celebrating them.
The sponsor, Globacom, while announcing the new episode in a statement in Lagos, said, “we are of firm belief that the society will be well off, if parents and guardians alike take time to interrogate the sources of wealth of their children and wards to serve as moral guide on those young elements”.
It added that “the prevailing insecurity in the society today and the legion of criminal acts and venal practices common in our society is as a result of the tendency of the people to get rich by all means possible.
When a society fails to inculcate moral value on its people, the result can be catastrophic and we are more than convinced that if the society interrogates every facet of the lifestyles of its people, it will be better off. “My Pikin Don Hammer” is a call to action and we are confident that the viewing public will learn some lessons from it.”
The episode featured Glo ambassador, Omawumi Megbele, who makes a guest appearance. It also featured regular actors such as Kanayo O. Kanayo who plays Professor Johnbull, Mercy Johnson- Okojie who acts as Caro, Queen Nwokoye who plays Elizabeth and Yomi Fash Lanso who stars as Olaniyi. Others are Bimbo Akintola (Ufoma), Bidemi Kosoko (Jumoke), Jnr. Pope Odonwodo (Churchill), Stephen Odimgba (Flash) and Martins Nebo (Abednego).
Globacom urged television viewers to watch the repeat broadcast of the episode on Friday at 8.30 p.m. on the NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes.
