Girl education in focus as NBM holds South-South summit

NBM of Africa Worldwide has held its South-South Regional Summit with the theme “Education for the Girl Child and Exterminating Mathematics Phobia in Our Schools.”

Held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, dignitaries were present and prizes given to the pupils who emerged first, second and third in the grand finale of the Secondary Schools Mathematics Competition.

Guest speakers made very interesting presentations/lectures in line with the theme of the summit.

Those who spoke at the event included Eze. Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Precious (Special Adviser to Abia State Governor on Health Matters) as well as Dr. Mrs. Rafiat Bada Abubakar, a consultant and Executive Member of Mathematics Society of Nigeria.

Dr. Rafiat Abubakar delivered a presentation on “Exterminating Mathematics Phobia in our Schools.” The other guest speaker, Dr. Chinyere Precious, spoke on “The Role of Public – Private Partnership in Building Society.”

The various government and private secondary school pupils who participated in the competition were accompanied by their teachers and they were all thrilled as the winners went home with different cash prizes while other participants got various gift items for their efforts, which made the event an all-winning occasion.

The summit was the first of its kind organized by the South-South Regional President Engineer E. Oyibo, Secretary Chief David Nkanga and other leaders/stakeholders of the region.

A statement by the organization said that NBM of Africa Worldwide was positively contributing to the growth of the educational system by sponsorship of programmes and events beneficial to pupils and students of schools.

The South-South Region of NBM of Africa pledged to do more in the future.
