Finally, Buhari to name new IGP today

…Nasarawa born AIG tipped acting IGP …Idris pays thank you visit to Aso Rock Barring any unforeseen circumstances, President Muhammadu Buhari will today approve the appointment of Abubakar Adamu Mohammed as the acting Inspector General of Police. The development has finally put to rest, the insinuation that the President is planning to extend the tenure of outgoing IGP, Ibrahim Idris, who attains the mandatory retirement age of 60 today. It is instructive to note that Idris visited Presidential Villa on Monday where he held a closed-door meeting with Buhari. But the outcome of the meeting was not disclosed to the State House of Correspondents after Idris’ visit. Adamu has served as the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State and currently the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Five, in Benin, Edo State. AIG Abubakar Adamu Mohammed is to take over from outgoing Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris. However, as at the time of going to press, there was no official announcement or confirmation from either the presidency or the Nigeria Police Force. Born on November 9, 1961, Mohammed enlisted in the police in 1986. He has a bachelor in Geography. He was at one time a director of peacekeeping operations. He is a former Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command and was an AIG in-charge Zone 5. He is currently a directing staff member at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPS) Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State. His elevation would imminently see several Deputy Inspectors General purged from service, an exercise that would be reminiscent of his predecessor, Idris in June 2016. Doosuur Iwambe, Abuja
