FG, others visit Nestlé factory to commemorate 150 yrs celebration

As part of activities to celebrate 150 years of nutrition, marked by the creation of Farine lactée (Cerelac) which has since been using to save the life of infants, Federal Government of Nigeria and other key stakeholders recently went in a factory tour to celebrate with Nestlé Nigeria.

 

The visit was organised at the Agbara factory where the company manufactures local products such as Cerelac is being produced. It was attended by some key stakeholders and served as an avenue to discuss how Nestlé’s commitment to Creating Shared Value and meets some of the main societal nutrition, as well as health needs of people in Nigeria.

 

Amongst the guests was the wife of the President of Nigeria, Hajia. Aisha Buhari, who was represented by wife of Ogun Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun and Alh. Mohammed Orire who represented the Federal Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole.

 

Others were the Ogun state Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye.and the State Commissioner of Trade and Investments, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru.

 

However, there are discussion around the health indicators of under-fives in Nigeria as well as Nestlé’s efforts to reduce micronutrient deficiencies in under-fives in Nigeria.

 

“As Nestlé continues to strive to distribute nutritional products across the globe, I look forward to us collaborating through my Future Assured programmes” Mrs. Buhari said.

 

The Country Manager of Nestlé Nigeria, Mr. Mauricio Alarcon who welcomed his guests at Agbara factory through Dr. Rizwan, expressed the desire and readiness of Nestlé to continue to collaborate with the relevant government department and other Partners in addressing some of the areas of identifying baselines as well as working on Nutrition Solutions to improve Nutrition Indicators for Nigeria.

 

The highpoint of the visit was a facility tour of both the Infant Cereal and Maggi processing plants.

 

Nestlé has been present in Nigeria for more than 50 years. The company has invested in 3 production sites in Agbara, Flowergate and recently in Abaji supporting the local sourcing of raw materials and the investments in rural communities. Nestlé Nigeria Plc employs over 2,300 people.
