FCTA vows to rid city of illegal night clubs

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has vowed not to renege on its duty to protect and maintain the sanctity of the Abuja master plan as well as rid the city of illegal night clubs.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) Coordinator, Alhaji Umar Shaibu, noted that the FCTA observed with dismay the proliferation of illegal conversion of buildings located within residential precincts into commercial night clubs and lounges.
He said the inappropriate conversion of buildings into commercial night clubs and lounges undermine public safety, jeopardize comfort and convenience as well as generates nuisance and traffic that threatens the peace of residents of the precincts.
While noting the illegal conversion as repugnant and inconsistent with the extant statutes, approved land use plan of the Federal Capital City, he stressed that it amounts to a violation of the city’s master plan which the authorities of the FCTA wouldn’t accept.
“FCTA will not renege on its duty to protect and maintain the sanctity of Abuja master plan and will continue to ensure that the city remains a safe place for living, working and recreating for all its residents and citizenry,” said Shaibu
Last week, the FCTA raided the popular Caramelo Night Club following series of complaints from residents of the area adjoining the night club.
The substance of these complaints, include noise nuisance from loud party music, nude/strip dancing club activities, intractable traffic challenges resulting from uncontrolled patronage to the commercial night club within the residential precinct.
It was gathered that the plot under reference was allocated to a health clinic in the Utako District and the building plan approval granted was for the development of a health clinic before the use of the building was changed to a commercial night club.
