Farmers/Herder Clash: US Embassy, PPBA synergies to end conflict

The incessant crisis between Fulani herdsmen and farmers that has hitherto bedeviled Plateau state communities has attracted the concern of the United States.

Its Nigerian embassy, in partnership with the Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA), is poised at holding a nine month consultative forum with stakeholders in the 17 Local Government Area in Plateau State with the aim of providing solutions to the perennial problem.

Speaking at the project launch in Jos, the state capital on Monday, the Director General, Plateau Peace Building Agency, Mr. Joseph Lengmang, said the state government has demonstrated visible efforts in the last two years to ensure that Plateau sustains its fragile peace.

The project tagged ‘Mechanism for Sustainable Cooperation and Transformation of Farmers/Herder Conflict in Plateau State’ is tasked to develop policy framework and mechanism to address the protracted farmers/herders conflict, Lengmang said.

Elated by the Project, Governor Simon Lalong, in his remark said without peace, no meaningful achievement will be gained in the State and the country at large.
Represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hitler Dadi, Lalong said it was unfortunate that the much needed peace experienced in Plateau for the past two years is now being threatened.
