FAAN commence repairs on Enugu airport

At last the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN says it will commence repairs on Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu runway to further upgrade the safety of the aerodrome.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to notify air travellers and the general public that with effect from today 14th December, 2017, the Authority will embark on a palliative repair work on the Runway of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu,” said Henrietta Yakubu, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs to FAAN.

“Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to all operators using the airport that the runway will be worked on.

There will be skeletal operations at the airport while the work is ongoing as the Runway will open for operations from 0700 hours local time till 1500 hours local time on the proposed dates.

This is to enable the contractor have ample day-light working hours in order to obtain stable and even Runway surface, while also completing the work within the stipulated time frame”.

“The timing of the closure is to allow operations on the runway unhindered and for the operators to be aware of the new development, so they could put it in their planning and properly structure their operations”.

Yakubu further explained that the first phase of the repair work will commence on the 14th to 21st December 2017, while the second phase will be from the 27th December 2017, to 4th January, 2018.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this action might cause our high esteemed customers.” said Yakubu.

It will be recalled that the Managing Director Engr. Saleh Dunoma inspected the airport not quite long to check what maintenance to be carried out to upgrade the safety of the aerodrome.

One of the domestic airlines operating into the airport has confirmed knowledge of the new development having received the NOTAM regarding the rehabilitation on the runway.
