Ese Oruru: Urhobo youths seek to be joined in suit against Yunusa

Members of the Urhobo Progressives Union (UPU), the apex body of the Urhobo ethnic nationality, led by its National Secretary, Albert Akpomudje (SAN), and the president of the Youth wing, Comrade Ovie Anthony, in company of the women wing, on Tuesday, stormed the Federal High Court in solidarity with the family of Ese Oruru at the resume hearing of the matter involving alleged abductor, Dahiru Yunusa (a.k.a. Yellow).

Akpomudje, who announced his appearance before the trial judge, Justice H. Nganjiwa, said, he was representing Urhobo interest in the matter.

In a chat with newsmen, shortly after the court sitting, Akpomudje expressed his satisfaction with the handling of the matter by the prosecution counsel, noting that he would write to the Inspector General of Police to be part of the prosecution team.

Akpomudje said, “Our interest in this case is that wherever any indigene of Urhobo is affected in anyway, it is the responsibility of UPU to come in and protect that person. I think the prosecution did very well because I thought I was going to take over but, he did very well.”

In his remark, Anthony said the UPU decided to wade into the case considering the sensitivity of the matter and the way it was being handled.

According to Anthony, “When we weighed the issue and the way the matter was being handled, the UPU, as the apex body of the people, thought it wise that we should come in so that we could argue the case properly, so that another Urohobo daughter or any other person would not be a victim of what had happened to Ese Oruru.”
