Engage in jungle justice, face wrath of the law – AIG Aderanti

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 2, Kayode Aderanti, has vowed to deal with anyone caught engaging in jungle justice in any part of the command.

The AIG made this known on Wednesday during a sensitization visit by the Centre For Change, an NGO led by Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin at the Zonal command headquarterz.

The Zonal Police boss who expressed sadness over the bane noted that there was need for high regards for human right in the country, emphasizing that jungle justice must not be accommodated.

describing juggle justice as a set back to Nigeria, he stressing that such action has no place to thrive under zone 2.

He said, “Self help does not help the society. People must believe in the system. Nigerians should believe in the police, judiciary for justice.

“When suspected criminals are caught, they should be handed over to the police or any other law enforcement agency for appropriate action. We are therefore appealing to members of the public to stop taking laws into their hands. Whoever is caught carrying out juggle justice will be dealt with according to law.

“ Even the Inspector-General of Police is against this barbaric act. We should all allow the rule of law to take its course,’’ he advised.

Aderanti also condemned some religious heads who he said preach hatred amongst Nigerians, noting that encouraging followers to carryout illegality, with a view to correct a wrong done was criminal.

Aderanti commended Dr Okei-Odumaki and her group for doing a noble job, stressing that the effect of their action had gone global.

The AIG assured the group of their support, stressing that the police will always be part of their crusade.

On her part, Dr Okei-Odumaki said the reason for the visit was to seek AIG’s collaboration in fighting against juggle justice and domestic violence.

She spoke on the imperative of police-citizens in handling of violence against persons, noting that many innocent persons, including children had been sent to their early grave due to lawlessness of some people.

The activist also frown at domestic violence been perpetrated by men and women in various homes, urging the police to rise up against such act through prosecution of offenders.

Over 100 officers and men drawn from the zone participated in the sensitization forum.
