Ember month: FRSC warns road users, says 4,503 accidents recorded in 2017

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned road user to be cautious as the country approach the yuletide season saying that it recorded over 4,503 accidents between the month of September and December in 2017.
FRSC stated this on Tuesday through its Corps Commander Operations zone 4 Headquarters Jos, Mr. Imoh Etuk at the 2018 Ember Months Campaign flag off held in Jos the Plateau State capital.
The Corps Commander Operations, also said a total of 1,602 deaths were also recorded in road crashes same year between the specified months.
Etuk who represented the Corps Marshal Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, cautioned drivers plying Nigerian roads to have good eyesight to prevent unwanted accidents.
He expressed worries that most drivers in Nigeria drives under the influence of alcohol and other hard substance.
“FRSC is going to be strict on its conduct of vision acuity test to make sure all drivers on the roads do have good eyesight”.
Addressing the gathering earlier, Sector Commander of the FRSC Plateau State Command, Patricia Emeordi, said the campaign will focus on abuse of safety measures by drivers while driving.
She stressed that the following measures “unwholesome practice, dangerous driving, over loading, use of phone while driving, route violation, wrongful over taking and speeding”, must be observed.
Mrs. Emeordi said FRSC Plateau State command is committed in ensuring safety of drivers, passengers and property.
She told the gathering that about 1600 unclaimed driver’s licenses are in the custody the FRSC Plateau state command.
Our correspondent reports that most causes of road crashes are due to negligence on the part of drivers, and non observance of rules on the highways.
