Election shift: Abiru charges stakeholders to cooperate with INEC to deliver credible poll

Despite the controversial postponement of the February 16 Presidential and National Assembly election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stakeholders and the entire citizens of the country have been called upon to give maximum support and cooperation to the electoral umpire for the country to achieve a credible Election. The Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Rotimi Abiru made this call at Fola Jinadu, in Bariga area of the state after the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly Election was announced. According to him, “The Postponement was most unfortunate and least expected,” the lawmaker representing Shomolu constituency 02 stated. He stressed that the postponement had a lot of implications on the image of the nation as well as unquantifiable damage on the economy. Abiru however expressed the belief that INEC is prepared and therefore, called on all stakeholders to give support to the electoral commission for it to deliver free, fair and credible election. On the overnight killing in Kaduna State and other parts of the country where sensitive electoral materials got burnt, the lawmaker called for a thorough investigation to prevent a recurrence. Abiru urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid any form of violence that may not allow for a credible election to take place which may in turn give the country a bad image among the committee of great nations of the world. The lawmaker also charged security agencies in the country to remain neutral while also giving their total cooperation and support to the electoral body towards conducting free, fair and credible elections.
