Egbema community demands chairman position of DESOPADEC

The people of Egbema Kingdom in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta state have appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to give them the chairmanship position in the board of the Delta state Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

In a statement issued and signed by the President of Egbema Kingdom Political Forum, Chief Johnson Taylor, released in Asaba on Monday, the community pleaded with the governor not to allow any person or group of people change his mind against the established order of rotation in the commission

The statement explained that appointments into the DESOPADEC board as it relates to the Ijaw ethic nationality is rotated among the kingdoms on the premise of production quantum, pointing out that Egbema Kingdom is third in the ranking ladder in oil production quantum after Ogunlagha and Gbaramaturu.

The statement reads in part:”Gbaramaturu had produced the chairman of the board in the person of Chief Wellington Okrika and the commissioner in the person of the current Deputy Governor, Kingsley Otuaro,” disclosing that Ogunlagha had also produced the executive director now in the incoming board based on the rotational formula.”

The statement further explained that the demand for the Egbema Kingdom to produce the next chairman of the DESOPADEC board is based on natural justice, fairness and equity, pointing out that Dr. Nanapere Eniola is their choice and remains the man the Egbema Kingdom wants.

In a related development, the people of Ogunlagha Community have appealed to Gov. Okowa to extend the dividends of democracy to their community.

The plea was contained in a press statement issued and signed by President of the community, Lamienghan Joseph where he stated that Ogunlagha and its environs have been neglected since 1999 because of its coastal environment.
