EFCC secures remand warrant to keep Femi Fani-Kayode

ÎThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday secured a remand warrant to further detain the spokesman for the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who was detained on Monday over the receipt of public funds to the tune of N840 million out of the N4 billion payout in the heat of the 2015 presidential election. The remand warrant will enable the anti-graft agency to keep the former minister beyond the stipulated time allowed by law.

The move, according to EFCC, is to enable the operatives to conduct proper investigation into how he got the money, what it was used for and who the beneficiaries are. Meanwhile, the commission has announced that it would arraign former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar (rtd) before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, today (Wednesday, May 11, 2016).

The anti-graft agency in a post on its official Facebook page on Tuesday said: “Former Chief of Air Staff M.D Umar Dikko to be arraigned by the EFCC tomorrow (today), Wednesday, May 11, 2016, before Justice Binta Murtala Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.” Umar was Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff between 2010 and 2012.

Recall that on January 15, 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari gave the antigraft agency the green light to establish the scope of the culpability of the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Sabundu Badeh, former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar (2010 -2012) and the immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu, in alleged fraudulent arms purchases for the Air Force between 2007 and 2015
