Edo State govt. pushes for sustained vision to curtail irregular migration

Building on existing efforts at curtailing irregular migration and equip vulnerable persons, Edo State Government is pushing for a sustainable partnership with the international Organisation for Migration (IOM).

Speaking at a follow up meeting with officials of IOM this Monday, in the Conference room of the State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Uyi Oduwa Malaka said the State Government is more interested on a vision that is sustainable for both the returnees and society.

Noting with satisfaction IOM’s collaborative efforts, Uyi Malaka told the officials of IOM that government would be happier to see an enduring vocation for the returnees through a training institute who there after would market and transfer their products on a global stage.

On its part, IOM said it plans to organise cultural programmes in its focal area Igueben, such as festivals, tales by moonlight, storytelling in book form for schools and other vulnerable persons with a view to giving them a sense of belonging.

In attendance at the meeting were the Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Uyi Oduwa Malaka, Permanent Secretary, Iryn Omorogiuwa Esq., some Directors of the Ministry and IOM officials, Jang Augustine, Eze Hyginus, Aigbeze Uhinmwen Esq and team lead Nanlita Ayu.
