Don harps on essence of information
Professor Anthony Kila of the Centre for International and Advanced Professional Studies (CIAPS), has declared that “information is everything” in today’s modern world as human beings depend on information to thrive and excel in various fields of endeavour.
Kila observed that since human beings are political animals, everyone would certainly be interested in political communication which deals with the production, dissemination, process and effects of information both through media and interpersonally.
He made the observation in a presentation tagged “Governance and Communication in the Information Age”, at the Two-Day management retreat, organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy.
According to Kila, social scientists have classified our world from Stone age, Agricultural age, Industrial age and currently Information age, a period in human history characterized by the shift from traditional industry, which the industrial revolution brought through industrialization to an economy state based on information and computerization.
He emphasized that the growth of internet users in Nigeria from 200,000 in Year 2000 to 51 million in 2015, underscores the importance of information among the growing populace, especially the young generation, adding that Nigeria ranks 9th position on the list of the highest internet users in the world.
