Don asks FG to compel officers to send children to public schools

A senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Abuja, Dr. Ben Ugheoke, has called for an enactment compelling public office holders to send their children to public schools.
Ugheoke, who spoke with newsmen in Abuja, said by such move, public officers would work toward improving the quality of public schools.
He said: “It should be made a law that if you are a public office holder, your children must attend public schools.
“If you refuse to send your children to public schools that are available, what you are saying is that the quality in the public schools is not up to what you expect.
“If that is true, what is the duty of a public officer? Is it not to improve the public service delivery which the institutions we are talking about represent?
“If a public officer has his wards in the public schools, he will work out a way to ensure that the public schools are of standard high enough to accommodate and educate his own children”.
According to Ugheoke, such law should apply at all levels of education-from primary to tertiary.
