Delta invests N1.7bn in underground drainage system
The Delta state Commissioner for Works Chief James Augoye has revealed that the sewage underground drainage system with two point five diameter, worth 1.7 billion naira connecting DLA, Jesus Saves and Agric roads in Asaba was awarded last year by the Okowa administration to curb the menace of flood in the State capital.
Chief James Augoye stated this Wednesday when he featured on the Hot FM, radio program the People’s Parliament.
He said they are two discharge points which are Marble Hill and Cornerstone connected to Iyiabi river across the Asaba Benin expressway.
Chief Augoye appealed to residents of the state capital to be patient as the incessant flooding would soon be a thing of the past.
While noting that work cannot commence on the DLA /Jesus Saves axis until the underground drainage is completed, the works commissioner said the state government has contracted a firm to do a study of the DBS road which is the lowest point of Okpanam road.
Chief Augoye stated that he has also instructed the contracting firm handling the Okpanam road project to place caution barriers at the Manholes on the Okpanam road walkway to avoid people falling in during floods stressing that covering up the manholes would make clearing the drains impossible.
