C’wealth Games: Ambode receives Queen’s Baton Relay

Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, has reiterated his administration’s commitment towards upgrading and reactivating all sporting facilities in the State to enhance preparations for next year’s Gold Coast’s Queen’s Baton Relay 21st Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Ambode stated this on Monday when he received the Queen’s Baton Relay from an International delegation led by Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, accompanied by the President, Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Gumel; Australian High Commissioner, Paul Lehmann, as well as Olympians and Paralympics, among others.
Minister of Sports, Dalung, who also represented President Muhammadu Buhari, noted that Nigerians are delighted with the arrival of the Queen’s Baton, saying it will kickstart a wake-up call for preparations ahead of the Games, next year.
The Queen’s Baton Relay has been the traditional curtain raiser to the Commonwealth Games since the 1958 Games in Cardiff, Wales, when it was first introduced as part of activities for the Games.
