Court nullifies election of Ex- Buhari’s aide

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has ordered the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) to withdraw certificate of return of Hon. Abdurrahaman Kawu Sumaila as elected representative of Takai/Sumaila Federal constituency of Kano at the National Assembly.
Presiding judge, Justice Lewis Allagoa, on Thursday nullified the Candidature of Kawu, who was former Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammad Buhari on Assembly matters ruling that He was not duly elected.
The Court also ordered INEC to recognize Shamsuddeen Dambazau as the dully elected House of Representative member Representing Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency.
It could be recalled that Mr Dambazau, a biological Son of the current Minister of interior General Abdulrahman Dambazau had sued INEC, APC and Mr Sumaila challenging the nomination of Mr Sumaila as the candidate of APC to represent Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Mr Dambazau, had approached the Court, praying for the nullification of Mr Sumaila’s nomination by APC as party’s Candidate in the just concluded general elections.
He told the Court through his Counsel, Barrister Nuraini Jimoh that Mr Sumaila contested for Kano South Senatorial seat and lost to Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya.
Mr Sumaila who was represented by his Counsel, Auwal Tofa declined to comment on the judgment.
