Communities beg Lagos govt to end terrorism, land grabbers activities

Ten communities in of Ibeju –Lekki, Lagos has sent a Save Our Souls (S0S) to Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to help put an end to the activities of land grabbers and terrorism in their neighborhood.

 Speaking through their counsel, Bamidele Ogundele, the communities which included: Oko-Olomi, Olowu-Oko-Olomi, Adeba (Jaguna), Itapampa, Adeba (Onikonko), Oko-Ile, Oko-Jegi, Alabula, Seriki Alabula, Alaga alongside others affirmed that, a certain Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, whom they described as ‘notorious land grabber’ has been terrorizing the community.
The community further alleged that the management of Toll System Development Company Ltd ,of being an accomplice in the land grabbing issue in the communities.
In a petition dated October 3, 2016, the communities also averred that an interim injunction dated June 23, 2016 ( a copy of which was made available) in a motion exparte filed by the community against the company, and granted by Justice A. J. Bashua of the Lagos High Court, Epe Division, had restrained ‘ the first defendant and one land warrior /agent , Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye from embarking on construction of any structures on the claimant’s land measuring 96.492 hectares at Oko-Olomi village, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.’
The ruling had also mandated the defendant to ‘remove all thugs and hoodlums on the claimants land’ while also ordering law enforcement agency to give effect to the order.
However, the community alleged that since the order was made, ‘Alhaji Owoeye has been going about molesting the people in the community and refused to obey the court order’.
The community had urged the Lagos State Task Force on Land Grabbers to arrest Alhaji Owoeye and Mr. Adesubomi Odutola, Managing Director of Toll System Development Company Limited .
However, in a counter statement, Alhaji Owoeye and his lawyer, Ayodele Omoniyi stated that the communities have only chosen to unleashed attack in a rather crude and uncivilized manner his person.
“Toll System Development Limited is a holder of a Certificate of Occupancy No.17/17/2003T in respect of an area of land measuring 1.561.20 hectares situate within Lekki Peninsula sub-region which was registered in Lagos State Land Registry on the 27th day of October 2003 and registered as NO.17, page 17 in volume 2003T of the Register of Deed.
” Tolls System Development Company Limited has also been granted possession of the land by an order of court which is still subsisting. It must be stated that those same set of “Omo Oniles” had invaded the premises of Tolls System Development Company Limited with arms, disrupted the construction of wall fence around the land intended to wade off encroachers and in the process killed one of the workmen and injured others”. He added.
Alhaji Owoeye stated that he has not violated any order of the court and he has never served on any event of such.
