Communications ministry to partner BPE in unbundling NIPOST

The Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu has said that the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) and the Ministry would work in partnership towards the unbundling of NIPOST.

This is pursuant to the idea of establishing Properties and Development Companies, NIPOST Services and Logistic to carry goods and services, e-government in rural areas for collection of international passports, and e-government companies to assist private companies in revenue generation.

Shittu disclosed this when the Director General of BPE, Mr. Alex Okoh paid him a visit in his office in Abuja, adding that the vogue of Global System Mobile (GSM) had made posting of letters to become challenging for people.

He explained that time lag, redundancy of manpower, inefficient equipment, and vehicles had posed major challenges on the sector; and this had spurred the Federal Government to find an alternative to making NIPOST efficient and effective.

On his part, the Director General of BPE, Mr. Alex Okoh said that BPE is the agency mandated by law to carry out circular reform, privatization and commercialization of public enterprise which NIPOST is listed amongst, stating that the inauguration of National Council on Privatisation has begun frame work for the design of modernized NIPOST.
