Commissioner inaugurates committee for Obiano’s Unity Cup

Anambra State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Entrepreneurship, Uju Nwogu, on Friday, inaugurated the Main Organising Committee (MOC) for Governor Obiano’s Unity Cup football tournament.
Nwogu named Jude Obikwelu, Vice-Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ASFA) as committee’s head, adding that the competition’s kick-off date would be released later.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee comprised of six sub-committees — marketing, ceremonial and entertainment, security, venues, discipline and publicity and medical.
The commissioner said that the competition was aimed at fostering unity in the state through sports.
She, however, said that as much as the state governor had accepted to sponsor the competition, the participating teams would pay N1,000 as registration fee.
Nwogu said that the 21 local government areas of the state were expected to feature in the male and female categories.
Teams from tertiary institutions, Police, Army, Navy, Immigration, Prison and other security agencies in the state will also participate.
We want everybody to participate in the competition aimed at fostering unity in the state,’’ the commissioner said.
She said that winners in the male and female categories would receive N1 million each, runners-up N500,000, third place N300, 000 and fourth place N200, 000 respectively.
