CLO condemns electoral malpractices

The Chairman of Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) in Anambra State, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, has condemned the alleged massive rigging that characterised the last Presidential election in the country.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra State,, Ezekwueme said the conduct of the election in the South East left much to be desired.
He lamented that the people of South East were systematically disenfranchised due to the malfunctioning of the card reader, late arrival of the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), intimidation, alleged discrepancies between results obtained from polling units and the ones officially declared, which was raised by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Ezekwueme said the complaints were serious and must be probed to establish its veracity or otherwise, but cautioned that parties or their agents or privies should not take laws into their hands, rather those who felt cheated should take legal option.
The CLO boss said he knew that there was fire on the mountain when INEC which assured Nigerians about their preparedness about one and half years ago , shifted the election by one week barely three hours to the poll on logistics reasons.
The activist said he was not happy with the level of mobilisation of voters in the South East, stating that although PDP won in the zone but the figure was abysmally poor.
Ezekwueme challenged political parties to mobilise their members to come out en masse this Saturday to vote the candidates and the parties of their choice.
