CIBN donates N20m for containment of Covid-19 in Lagos

.Commends, Buhari, Sanwo-Olu, Emefiele, others for measures against Coronavirus spread

In an effort to contain the spread coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has donated a total sum of N20 million to the Lagos State Government.

This is even as the Institute applauded President Muhammadu Buhari, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CIBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, and all the banks for leading the charge to stop the spread of the virus in the country.

CIBN made these disclosures in a statement signed by it Registrar/Chief Executive, Mr Seye Awojobi,  and made available to the newsmen in Lagos.

The Governing Council of the Institute in the document noted that as a Not-for-Profit membership organisation, that it is fully committed towards ensuring a safe and sound economy as well as supporting all its stakeholders to achieve a healthy and sustainable development of the Country.

Although, the Bankers Institute stated that the donation was a token of its support towards the State Government’s response to the pandemic. However, added that it is believed that it would booster the pool of fund available to the state which would go a long way in the provision of the much-needed essential materials and important medical equipment.

Meanwhile, CIBN in the statement applauded President Muhammadu Buhari and Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, the Governor of Lagos State, for leading the charge to manage the challenging situation, most especially the measures taken so far to stop the spread of the virus in the country.

The Institute also commended the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CIBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, FCIB, CON and all the banks, who are corporate members of the Institute, for their generous donation towards curtailing the pandemic in Nigeria.
