CD laments neglect of S’ East in 2016 Budget
Despite the drama witnessed between the executive and the legislature in signing the 2016 national budget, a pro-democracy group, Campaign for Democracy (CD), has alerted the Presidency over the outright neglect of the South East Zone of the country in this year’s budget.
In a release signed by the Anambra State Branch Chairman of Campaign for Democracy, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme and distributed to journalists in Onitsha, the group questioned the rationale which led to non-capturing of a few important projects in the area which ordinarily could have attracted Federal Government’s attention.
Comrade Ezekwueme, while urging the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari to see the entire country as his constituency, reminded him of the economic and social importance of the construction of 2nd Niger Bridge, commencement of full economic activities at the Onitsha River Port, and reconstruction of Enugu/Onitsha dual carriage way which has been under reconstruction since 2008 and later abandoned by the immediate past government.
CD Chairman in the State who frowned at the neglect of South East States in sharing the national cake, remarked that the resuscitation of Enugu/Port Harcourt/Aba railway line will give the people of the South East a sense of belonging in the Buhari administration.
