Building quarantine centres not enough to fight Covid-19, says Cleric

Parish Priest in-charge of Holy Spirit Parish, Ogidi, Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ezeoruonye, has beckoned on Federal Government to procure enough basic medical facilities that will help in the fight against Coronavirus.

Fr. Ezeoruonye, who said Nigeria has not demonstrated readiness to fight Coronavirus, stressed that God has been protector, quoting the proverbial word of a tailless cow.

Fr. Ezeoruonye stated this during a chat with our correspondent at his Parish, Ogidi.

He advised for procurement of testing facilities, hands washing facilities and sanitizers in all the government schools in across Anambra State, as a precautionary measure to preventing Coronavirus.

“In Nigeria, how many hospitals have the testing machine? How many schools also have it? It should be made available for schools, hospitals and other public gathering,” he stated.

However, the Catholic Priest commended the Federal Government for placing a ban on travellers from some countries with high cases of Coronavirus.

He observed that the restriction would apply to travelers from countries with more than 1,000 cases. They include China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Japan, France, Germany, United States, Norway, UK, Netherlands and Switzerland.

He urged his counterparts in the churches and villages to assist on creating awareness on the basic health hygiene, noting that some elderly persons in the villages were yet to understand the danger of coronavirus.
