Building collapses in Lagos with over 20 labourers trapped

An uncompleted building, located at no 6 , Richard Abimbola Street, Ilasa bustop Lagos on Thursday collapsed with over 20 labourers trapped in the rubble.
The labourers were said to be carrying out various construction works when the tragic incident occurred at about 2pm.
According to the General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, whose men were on ground for rescue operation, 14 of the labourers had been rescued.
He said: “Some of the rescued labourers are been treated by the agency’s medical team and Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), while some had been rushed to the hospital.
“Extraction of trapped victims is on going and no mortality has been recorded at the moment.”
It was also gathered that the collapse of the building which was to be used as a shopping centre may be as a result of sub-standard building material used by the contractor.
Adesina however stated that investigations continues in order to ascertain the actually cause of the collapse.
