Benue flags -off distribution of hand sanitizers to LGs

The Benue state Action Committee on COVID-19 has begun the distribution of hand sanitizers to the 23 local government area councils in the state.

The state Deputy Governor and Chairman of the committee, Benson Abounu said the move was to take the fight and sensitization to the rural communities of the state and charged council chairmen to be judicious in the distribution of the items without bias.

Commissioner for Water resources and Environment, Dr. Condo Ahire took possession of the materials for distribution in Benue Ñorth-West with the distribution centre at Katsina – Ala.

Also, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Ngunan Addingi will distribute the items for Zone B in Gboko while the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Sunday Ongbabo carried out the exercise in Oturkpo for Benue South.

Meanwhile, the sub- committee Chairman on COVID-19, Dr. Amali has said that the fumigation of offices in the state will begin on Monday and assured that the chemical being used was human friendly.

He explained that with the fumigation of major markets in the state, attention has been shifted to the rural areas and urged people not to panic, but follow all the rules of social distancing, non-hand shaking, washing of hands and avoid gathering in crowded environments to avert contracting the virus.

On his part, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Benue state, Rev. Akpen Leva called on Christians to worship in their various homes as a way of checking COVID-19 spread in the state.
