Awolowo’s Spirit Rejoices to See Buhari Win, Says Aregbesola

With Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence as the president-elect of Nigeria, the spirit of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo will be rejoicing in his grave, says Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
It would be recalled that Awolowo had, before his death, predicted that a time would come when people would unite to fight corruption, among other challenges. Aregbesola, who spoke via his twitter handle, @raufaregbesola, jubilated that the words of Awolowo had come to reality.
The governor, who tweeted in Yoruba said: “I am joyous to see a day like this. I am happy that I witnessed the defeat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Congratulations, friends, join me to rejoice. Awo’s spirit rejoices to see this day.”
Also, Aregbesola described Buhari’s victory as the best thing to happen to a country that has endured 16 years by a single political party at the centre. To the governor, Nigeria had finally been rescued from the jaws of death after 16 years of social, political and economic strains.
Aregbesola, in a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Office of the Governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, hailed Nigerians for their doggedness, perseverance and commitment during the voting process.
He said: “I congratulate Nigerians for their steadfastness and commitment to a better Nigeria in the way they have come out right from the collection of permanent voters’ cards (PVCs), which gave them the opportunity to exercise their civic responsibilities.
