Attempted murder: How mother of four allegedly poured hot water on husband in Lagos

A mother of four, Joy Imeribe is currently been held by detectives at the Lagos State Police Command for attempting to murder her husband, Ibe Akachi.
It was gathered that on Monday, May 28, 2018, Joy and Ibe who lives at No 21 Karounmi Street, Ijesha Lagos had a misunderstanding over the husband’s negligence to provide for the children’s upkeep.
The next morning, Joy who was still vexed had allegedly boiled a hot bucket of water and emptied same on the husband which resulted in life threatening burns.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal who Paraded the suspect at the command headquarters in Ikeja, the development is coming barely a week after a woman had stabbed her husband to death in Ikorodu area of Lagos.
Giving further details on the incident, Edgal said, ” Findings made so far in the matter revealed that the husband and wife had verbal disagreement, which did not go down well with the wife. She went to bed with grudges in her mind.
The next morning while her husband was in the kitchen preparing breakfast, the wife who had been seething with anger over the unsettled issue bordering on her keeping late nights, boiled had bucket f water and emptied the content on her husband’s body.
“She did not deny committing the crime, however she told the police that her husband used to beat her in he past.”
Speaking to Journalist, Joy who hails from Abia State claimed her action was in self Defence.
She said she had been living with Ibe for 13 years but that Ibe was yet to pay her bride price.
Telling what had transpired, joy said, ” my action was in self defence as the father of my children is notorious for beating me. Infact on one occasion, he had even stabbed me with a knife on the left hand.
” On that monday, he had left the house without dropping only for food. I had to borrow N1000 from a neighbour to prepare food for the children.
” After preparing the food I also had to borrow another N2000 from my neighbour to buy second hand clothing from Yaba. My plan was to resell the cloths at Aswani market so that I can get money to keep feeding the children..
” I had only returned from Yaba at about 4 pm when my husband who was already at home started asking me where I was coming from. I told him the truth bit he insisted and started beating me. He claimed I was a flirt and had gone to see some of my man friends.
” the beating went on all night and in the morning when he had gone to the kitchen to prepare food for the children, I also went to boil water to bath the children. He wanted to start with another round of beating so in sell defence, I carried the boiling water in a bucket and poured it on him.
“the kitchen and found a boiling water and out of anger, I poured it on him. hadn’t been up and doing with his responsibility as the man of the house, saying he doesn’t give them money for food and upkeep.”
Joy further declared that seeing the degree of injury she had inflicted on her husband, she now regrets her action.
She however said, ” I just did what I had to do to protect myself. I had moved out of the house early this year but after much plea from him and friends I returned with my children to his house. This is just six weeks after I moved back, he started acting funny again. He wasn’t giving us money for food and upkeep. ”
Edgal who said the case would be in court at the completion of investigation further lamented the increase in domestic violence in the state.
He advised couples having marital issues to discuss it, share their problems and not bottle up.
