The All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu State chapter, has called for the immediate resignation of Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, over alleged sponsorship of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidate for 2019.
Speaking with newsmen in Enugu at the weekend, the Enugu State chairman of APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye accused the minister of working for the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidate in 2019, as against the interest of President Buhari.
He said Onyama, as well as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Judicial Review, Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku, are sponsoring an illegal faction of APC in Enugu State.
“Onyama and Ibekaku are sponsoring different groups who are working for the emergence of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidate in 2019, as against the interest of President Buhari.
“So I seize this opportunity to call for the resignation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
“He has no business continuing to be the face of the nation when he has no interest of President Buhari; he has no business to associate himself with the leadership of APC when it is clear that he is working counter purposes to the interest of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“So, I think he ought to have done the honourable thing now that his antics have been exposed and simply resign from that office.”
He alleged that the Minister and the SSA to the president were sponsoring groups such as the ‘Integrity Group’ and that when the group was exposed, they went underground.
According to him, “They have now taken different forms of names: ‘Concerned APC members’, ‘Concerned APC Stakeholders’, ‘Concerned Women of APC’ and other concerned, concerned.
“You are aware that both the Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as SSA to the President on Judicial Reform, Mrs. Ibekaku had employed A. C. Ude, who is on suspension, and Ngozika Queen Nwankwo, who is also on suspension to continue to run what they think is a parallel structure even when they are working with the government of President Buhari,” he said.
