Atikase quits Mimiko’s govt in Ondo

An aide to Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Otito Atikase, on Tuesday, resigned his appointment.
Until Tuesday, Atikase was Senior Special Assistance to the governor on political affairs.
Atikase said he resigned from his position because most of the old Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in his cabinet have not been treated equal by the state government.
He accused Governor Mimiko of deliberately abandoning the culture of consultations in the picking of the party’s candidate for the November governorship election in the state.
According to Atikase, “I hereby wish to notify Your Excellency of the resignation of my appointment as a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Affairs and express my appreciation for the opportunity to serve the people of the state in that capacity.
“I have observed with concern that since Your Excellency left your former party, the Labour Party, to join the PDP, most of us in the Old PDP as you prefer to address us, have been treated with disdain in the affairs of the party and government as conquered politicians with no regards for our political career and future”
He further noted that the imposition of Eyitayo Jegede as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming coming election was a unilateral decision orchestrated by Governor Mimiko.
