Association trains 200 people on vocations, entrepreneurship devt. in Kwara
No fewer than 200 people in Omu-Aran, Irepodun local government area of Kwara state have received free vocational and entrepreneurship development training organised by Dominion Youth Liberation Association.
The vocational training, according to the association’s president, Mr. Alex Abegunde, was part of a week-long activities marking the 2017 World Earth Day celebration.
Participants at the training held at the old Hall of Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran, comprise under-graduates, unemployed youths and house wives.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the 11 wards of the council.
The Daily Times reports that the participants received basic tips and rudiment on making hair cream, face powder, laundry soap, Chinese balm, pomade among others.
They were also given counselling on safe environment, certificates and chemicals free of charge to assist for the smooth take-off of their businesses.
He said that the Earth Day 2017 which climaxed on April 22, has Environmental and Climate Literacy, Education is the Foundation for Progress its theme..
Abegunde said the program was aimed at promoting entrepreneurship development among the youths for them to be self reliance.
He maintained that the level of unemployment in the country had assumed an alarming proportion, saying government alone cannot provide for the need of the citizens.
“This free vocational training is part of our corporate social responsibility as an association toward making our youth’s to be self reliant as we mark this year World Earth Day.
“It has become very difficult for government at all tiers to provide employment for our numerous graduates and other categories of unemployed citizens.
“Acquiring vocational and entrepreneurship training therefore remains a veritable alternative for the youths to be self productive and reliance,” he said.
In his remark, the president of Omu-Aran Development Association (ODA), Chief Bisi Adeyemi, praised the association for its foresight, urging other individuals and bodies to emulate the gesture.
The council chairman, Comrade Kazeem Adekanye, reiterated the council’s readiness to continue to partner with relevant stakeholders in bringing the desired development to the grassroots.
A beneficiary, Mr. Adewumi Toyin, thanked the organiser for their commitment and dedication in the area of youth empowerment.
He described the training as “very timely and a right step in the right direction.
