Assembly directs Gov Al-makura to sack LG chairmen

The Nasarawa state House of Assembly, has directed the state governor, Alhaji Tanko Almakura, to dissolve the state’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) chairmen of 13 local government area and overseers of 18 development areas and their members.
The Speaker of House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, gave the directive on Thursday after Alhaji Saidu Galadima (APC Toto/Gadabuke), who is the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, moved the motion for the dissolution of the appointed councils officials at the floor of the house in Lafia.
According to the Speaker, the motion was timely due to the fact that the tenure of the state’s Interim Management Committee(IMC) Chairmen of 13 local government area and overseers of 18 development areas and their members is coming to end on the midnight of 24th July.
He also called for election at the 13 local government areas of the state so as to bring the government closer to the people at the grass root as well as to give them a sense of belonging for the overall development of the state.
“By this motion, that the house has finally resolved that the governor should put in place machinery for the conduct of election of local government chairmen and councilors to run the affairs of the third tier of government.”
The Speaker used the medium to call on the people of the state to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation for the overall development of the country.
Recall that on July 25, 2016, Gov. Almakura inaugurated the state councils officials for a tenure of one year in office.
