As BPA Old Students celebrates 40th anniversary, Bature promises responsible leadership

The 1983 graduating set of the Bishop Phillips Academy, BPA Ibadan Alumni Association last weekend celebrated 40th anniversary of completion of secondary school education.
The celebrate on Friday visited their alma mater to give back to the school by presenting gift items to students who entertained and felicitated with them.
The peak of celebration was the anniversary get- together at the Koltol Hotel at the Ikolaba area of Ibadan city where the old Boys and Girls wined, dinned and danced to various lyrics of old school and modern trend music.
Climaxing the event was the inauguration of the newly elected executive members that will pilot the affairs of the Association for the next two years.
In his acceptance speech, President of the BPA Set of ’83, Mr. Peter Bature promised responsive leadership while assuring members of unprecedented development and welfare during his tenure.
He said the focus of the executive under his leadership will be to consolidate on the stability of the Association and grow membership by various acts of publicity and media engagement to create awareness for 1983 graduands who are not yet on the platform.
“We will engage the school more by our act of philanthropy.
“All members of the association will be approached to suggest areas of improvement and growth of the association.
“We will make contact with every member of this association on their birthday to celebrate with them, and also be involved in various celebrations.
“In the course of our stewardship we will work on getting a bye law that will guide our activities going forward, so we will solicit for your cooperation to make Input when the time comes.
“Considering our median ages to be in the range of 60 efforts will be made to provide professional guidance and counseling for our improved livability,” said Nature.
The president promised that activities of the executive will be transparent and accountability will be its watchword.
While appreciating all for the confidence reposed in him to lead the Association, he said their confidence will not be misplaced.
He, as well appreciated members of the immediate past executive for steering the ship of the Association well.

During the health talk organized to commemorate the occasion, Dr. Ridwan Salam, a Consultant Family Physician at Jericho Specialist Hospital, Ibadan spoke on the role of diet in diseases, said the diets people eat, in all their cultural variety, define to a large extent people’s health, growth and development.
Addressing members of the Association who are in their middle ages, the physician said “already 79% of deaths attributable to chronic diseases are occurring in developing countries, predominantly in middle aged men, and dietary indiscretion is a major contributory factor to this, hence the need for modifications.”
He advised that they need most adequate intakes of water, carbohydrates, protein, fats and oils as well as trace elements such as copper, zinc, manganese, selenium, iron , all available in leafy vegetables, fruits etc.
Dr. Salam, however, warned against disproportionate intake, excess or inadequate intake, eating late, and guiding against famine which put a lot of pressure on availability of food.
