Arrest SARS Commander, NDDC Director, Rivers PDP Demands
– Says Election Was Between Army, Police, INEC, APC Armed Thugs and PDP
The People’s Democratic Party,PDP, in Rivers State has called for the arrest and prosecution of the Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Rivers State, Mr Chidi Wihioka and the Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr Derrick Mene for their roles in last Saturday’s re-run elections across the state.
The Rivers PDP Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah said in a press statement issued on Wednesday that the SARS Commander and the NDDC director conspired with others to hijack INEC materials, as well as shoot and maim innocent Ogonis during the election.
He said the arrest and prosecution of these men was necessary to save the future of the country’s nascent democracy and also to serve as deterrent to others who think that Rivers State was their personal property.
Obuah described the victory of the PDP candidates as triumph of light over darkness, insisting that the purported loss of the party candidates especially in parts of the Rivers South East and Rivers East Senatorial Districts were nothing but an intentional falsehood, as no election held in the affected areas, the All Progressives Congress, APC, purportedly claimed victory.
The party chairman said the victory of the PDP candidates against the APC in the just concluded election underscored the fact that “Rivers State is PDP and PDP is Rivers State,” stating that the APC would never win election in any polling unit in Rivers State under a free and fair election.
He commended Rivers people and particularly members of the PDP for their courage in standing firm to cast their votes in the face of the guns and threats by the Army, SARS and APC thugs.
The State PDP Chairman, who described the December 10, 2016 Re-run Election in Rivers South East Senatorial District and some areas where the APC purportedly won, as the worst in the history of elections in the State, called the exercise in those areas a farce, insisting that the election was between the Commander of SARS in Rivers State, Army, Police, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and APC thugs.
According to the PDP Chairman, the results purportedly declared in Rivers South East Senatorial District were characterized with shooting and snatching of electoral materials by the combined efforts of the Army, SARS and Policemen under the supervision of APC chieftains, recalling that PDP under close monitoring of the election had cried out to INEC and the Inspector-General of Police for intervention to no avail.
Obuah said the situation was even more painful because on the eve of the election, the Police IG had come to Rivers State and assured the people of the State that the force would not be partisan during the exercise.
The PDP said it would challenge the declaration of Magnus Abe, Barry Mpigi, Friday Nke-Ee, Innocent Barikor and other candidates of the APC in the re-run elections, adding that there was no election in Khana, Gokana, Tai, Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Areas.
Obuah decried the activities of the Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the NDDC, whom he claimed was aided by SARS, Police and Army personnel to brutalize PDP members in Khana LG.
