Aregbesola’s alleged Lagos Senatorial ambition angers stakeholders

The yet to be confirmed 2019 senatorial ambition of the incumbent governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola has begun to generate rude and very hash comments from members of the public who view the aspiration of the governor
whose eight year reign as the chief executive of Osun State will come to an end in 2018 as insensitivity and political greed on the part of the governor.
Though Aregbesola is yet to open up on the rumoured senatorial ambition, the alleged Lagos West senatorial ambition of the Ilesha, Osun State born politician has continued to dominate discussions at political gatherings especially, in the ruling APC fold with trails of condemnations and stiff opposition being expressed.
Remarks by a political analyst and commentator, Muka Popoola, over Aregbesola rumoured senatorial ambition on his face book page recently has continued to generate negative reactions
and comments which had shown that the plan by the governor to leave Osun State and contest senatorial election in Lagos after his eight year rule as the governor in the state is not a welcome development among the people of the State and will be resisted if it indeed surface.
Popoola had written on his page; “The noise about Rauf Aregbesola, Governor of Osun State, running back to Lagos as he is finishing his second term next year to contest the 2019 election for the Lagos West senatorial seat is becoming sickening, terribly sickening.
I do not have any problem with Aregbesola positioning himself for senate after his tenure as governor. He’s not alone in such avarice as being displayed by modern day politicians in Nigeria.
“Nigerian politicians since December 5th, 1998 local government election which culminated in the return to democracy in May 29th, 1999 once he wins election into any small office,
he wants to keep rolling from one elective position to another until he expires sometimes through infirmity or death and may be some missteps in his political maneuvering that failed him either at party primaries or he’s rejected at the ballot.
“My eardrums have been lately troubled with the noise from APC members in Lagos who don’t believe that it is right for Aregbesola to return to the state after eight years as governor of Osun and go ahead to contest for the senate.
The current holder of the party’s ticket, Adeola Solomon, famous as YAYI, who is in the senate is already neck deep in the race for the governorship in Ogun State and so, the APC senatorial ticket for Lagos West is up for grabs.”
“I would ordinarily not be concerned with APC members groaning and shedding tears for being held in servitude for an Aregbesola after a juicy eight year tenure as commissioner for works and infrastructure in Bola Tinubu’s cabinet
and then governor in Osun State, but I have an issue with the sort of political attitude that would make Aregbesola want to turn his back on the senatorial ticket in Osun and go after the Lagos slot.
“No senator is different from other in the senate. My question at this point therefore, is to Aregbesola, Mr. Governor, if you have done so well in Osun, why would you not stay there and pursue your senatorial ambition since the senator in Osun is the same as the ones in Lagos.
“Aregbesola hears the cries of your distraught members in Lagos West and keep your troubles away from them. You can be senator in Osun if being in the senate after your tenure as governor is all you need to enter the kingdom of God.”
Popoola’s remarks however, provoked further comments which expressly criticised and condemned Aregbesola’s alleged plan to contest senatorial seat in the state.
According to Idowu Afolami, Osun State based politician, “Aregbesola has finished the party here in Osun and he knows that he cannot win even Councillorship election except it’s rigged, hence his decision to move to Lagos to contest.”
An APC supporter, Paul Graham in his comments said APC members will be acting dumb if they ever consider Aregbesola’s candidacy for Lagos senatorial seat. “It is nothing short of broad day robbery.”
“Miracle use to happen in Lagos. Anything goes in the State of Excellence. So, it will not surprise me if Aregbesola is allowed to fly the APC ticket in Lagos,” was the comments of Akindina Oluwatoyin Abiodun.
“If the plan to contest senatorial seat in Lagos is true, then Aregbesola is behaving like a common scoundrels, very shameful,” was the comment from Oni Olushola Gbenga.
For Muhammed Adebola Bello, “I’m a diehard APC supporter, but I would want somebody to tell Aregbesola to stay put in his State of Osun, the Ipinle Omoluabi
and not to venture to come to Lagos so that the political woe that befell Osun to happen to us in Lagos which cost the party a senatorial seat at the recently conducted election in Osun State.”
Also speaking, Akin Barkin said, “I don’t blame anybody, but the imposition policy of their leader, I’m sure like Charley Boy put it “Our Mumu Don Do” I can assure you that it’s the last straw that will break the camel’s back.
It can’t continue for life. This is nothing but short changing the people of Lagos and Lagosians are wailing badly on this.
“Aregbesola will fail, unless he pursues his senatorial ambition in Osun, mark my words.
Are we still all with them like before? The answer is No!!! Alimosho will not go with him on this and the whole Lagos is saying No! This issue has been on for sometimes now, if they like let them hear, I’m a Lagosian from Isale Eko.”
For Falohun Ayo, “It cannot happen in Lagos, I believe Aregbesola is not serious about it and I think he was just flying a kite which I know it won’t fly. It’s a child’s play, a word they say is enough for the wise.
Laughing off the insinuations, Amos Aniya said, “even if you think Lagosians are fools must you tell them to their faces. But Lagosians especially those of you from Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja and Epe your “Mumu must end” with this.
“Ogbeni Aregbesola will nurse such ambition in his heart because you politicians from IBILE, the real owners of Lagos runs to this fake Alfa at Osogbo to seek his help whenever you seek political office, therefore, he sees himself as an oracle of Lagos politics.
But this time, he is stretching his luck too far and surely, disgrace awaits him.
Agreeing with Aniya, Lateef Taiwo Bamgbose said, “I weep for my brothers and sisters in Lagos. When would these predators leave Lagos for Lagosians?”
Abdulahi Akanni said, “Someone should tell Aregbesola to perish the thought of coming back to Lagos for any elective position after his eight years as governor in the State of Osun. We are not his “political maga” for crying out loud.
Enough of this rubbish, we will no longer tolerate these greedy politicians, especially in Lagos. Aregbesola will not succeed on this. “APC should not try it.
The party should not take the people for granted by “importing” a bad product from Osun to Lagos,” Adesoji Oyinlola Williams commented.
Isaac Ojo – Eleka wonders “Why should a state governor who served for four or eight years with unfettered access to unaccounted and unaudited security votes won’t just retire to the farm?
If your services are still needed, people will approach you. Why should you be a sitting governor and yet, one godfather is holding a senatorial seat in wait for you, even if it’s in your State of Osun? Why is the black man so greedy and what do they really want to become?”
“Quite funny and frustrating. Such a dormant politician with no grace for shame,” was the comment from Gbenga Dan Asabe.
“Aregbesola kills APC in Osun and now he wants to run to Lagos to contest senatorial seat, let’s wait and see,” Nelson Edoh.
Olaniregun Olajire says, “I wish he tries it in Osun to affirm his home base popularity and integrity. I wish him well and good luck in the State of Osun and Osun East Senatorial District.
Iyabo Popoola- Akinsiju wonders if “politics has turned to school where the principal can just pick a student and promote him or her to the next class either passed or failed?
How can you “migrate” from Osun as a governor and be eyeing senatorial seat in Lagos?
“Are there no other responsible people in Lagos? “Aseju to de fun eyin oloselu yi o” meaning (the politicians excesses has got no limit). Must they rule over us by force? Surely, we shall resist this.
But again, I won’t blame them, we women are the major problem, you will see them in six yard Ankara and one sego scarf given to them by one greedy politician who has looted the country or the state treasury who has also given money to the women leader who will mobilise fellow women only to be shouting “Aregbesola in o” when are we going to change?” she asked.
