APC’s war against corruption a mere propaganda, says APGA youth wing

The discharge of Justice Adeniyi Ademola, his wife, Olubowale and Mr. Joe Agi (SAN), by an FCT High Court, and the unfreezing of Former First Lady Patience Jonathan’s account, have once again proven the fact that this administration’s war against corruption is mere propaganda.

This is the view of the Youth wing of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in a statement by its National Youth Leader, Mr.Chinedu Anselem Nebeife in a statement.

According to him, the anti corruption campaign is a vindictive tool directed against the body of opposition and opponents of the administration. “It is indeed regrettable that an elected government in a democracy could descend to the infamous level of deploying crude vendetta against perceived enemies as a tool of statecraft.”

He added that the position of the party has always been that for the war on corruption to succeed it must start from the corridors of power, “We have always maintained that to effectively fight corruption, the war must begin right within the corridors of government. For a government fully studded with known agents of corruption cannot by any means prosecute a meaningful war against corruption. It has never happened anywhere in the world.

“This administration must bear in mind that breaking into people’s homes in the dead of the night like common criminals and clamping and throwing people into jail recklessly will not win the war against corruption.

“For to win this war, government must ensure greater transparency in all her dealings and institutions and remove the incentives that encourage corruption,” he said.

“In the mean time,” he said, “it is our hope that this latest judicial victory has driven home the point that the war against corruption cannot be effectively prosecuted on the basis of trial by media and conviction by propaganda.”
