Anti-Fayose PDP fraction holds parallel congress in Ekiti

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, opposed to Governor Ayo Fayose, but believed to be loyal the senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Buruji Kashamu, on Tuesday, held its ward, local government and state congresses.

The congress was conducted in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, where delegates from all parts of the state converged to vote. Chief Williams Sunday Ajayi was elected Chairman.

Though, there was a little skirmish earlier in the day as suspected thugs stormed the secretariat of the Omo Ilu Foundation along Ajilosun Road, venue of the congress, in a bid to disrupt it, the delegates later regrouped to continue the election.

A party leader, Dr. Adekunle Folayan, explained that the new executive council would run the party in line with the constitution and reposition it to be closer to the people, pointing out that the factional executive council was recognised by the national leadership of the party as the nomination papers of all contestants were duly filed at the National Secretariat.
