Only agric can provide jobs to all Nigerians irrespective of qualification – AFAN

Chairman, Kaduna State Chapter of All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Alhaji Nuhu Aminu, has said that agriculture is the only sector that can provide jobs to every Nigerian irrespective of qualification.

Aminu made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zaria, Kaduna on Wednesday.

“Agriculture not only in Nigeria, but the world over, remains one of the sectors necessary for human existence.

“It is of course the only sector that can provide jobs to all manners of people regardless of their qualification, what is needed most is your physical and mental ability to produce.

“You don’t need to be a professor, doctor, masters degree or degree holder before you practice agriculture, all you need is the skills, physical and mental ability, plus capital, that’s all,’’ he said.

Aminu said that apart from job creation and poverty alleviation, agricultural practices would reduce social vices to the lowest level.

While applauding the courage of Nigerians for re-embracing farming as advocated by President Muhammadu Buhari, the chairman urged them to sustain the tempo.

According to him, going by the level of production this year, farmers can boast of feeding the nation and even beyond.

“Nigerians have really answered the call by the President, we are happy that the call is yielding a lot of benefits because many people who abandoned farming long ago are now go back to farm.

“Apart from that, there are many people who are engaging in farming business for the first time, yet they are enjoying it,’’ he said.

The chairman, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to rescind its decision to import maize, assuring that Nigerian maize was more nutritious.

He called on Nigerians, especially farmers, to rally round the current administration to pave way for successes and to attract more democratic dividends to their respective areas.
