Accord party sacks chairman , appoints 7 man committee in A/Ibom

Akwa Ibom state chapter of Accord Party have passed a vote of no confidence on its chairman Hon Martins Udo Inyang over alledged frauds and anti party activities in the state .
Addressing party stakeholders in Uyo on Saturday, the state Secretary of the party Obong Imeobong Udeng said the party have discovered that the former chairman’s leadership was embroiled in widespread irregularities that caused the poor performance of the party in 2023 governorship election.
The stakeholders at the meeting comprised of members of the state working committee , the campaign Director General of the party in the last governorship election Hon Aniekan Johnson , local government chapter Chairmen from 31 council areas in the state and Ward Chairmen in 329 wards in the state.
Udeng listed alleged offences of the former chairman to include embezzlement of N3.1m donated by the party governorship candidate for logistics in 2023 general election, inability to win election in his unit, ward and local government area due to his greed as well as gross misconduct in protecting the party interest against opposition .
The party secretary observed that stakeholders decided to relieved the state chairman of his position in order to rescue the party from total collapse after the poor performance in the last election.
” From our investigation, we have have found out that Martin Udo Inyang worked assiduously the interest of our party in the state during the last election .
” He facilitated defection of our members to other political parties and clandestinely positioned his church members to unseat other members in the Exco without the consent of the state working committee .
” Again Martins Udo Inyang craftily made his wife a candidate of our party in Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district for monetary gains “
The party therefore appointed a seven man Care Taker Committee to manage its affairs within six months .
The seven man care taker committee as announced by the party include Hon Aniekan Johnson as Chairman, Bishop Eric Etuk Akpan , Chief Imeobong E.Udeng and Uduak Clement Bassey.
Others are Samuel Eshiet Akpan,Hon. Ubokulo Paul and
Hon.Abasifreke Thompson.
Udeng who read the vote of no confidence motion before the Stakeholders disclosed that the care taker committee has responsibility to strengthen the party and reconcile differences within the party before state congress will be conducted to produce a substantive leadership of the party at the level .
Meanwhile , the embattled Chairman of the party Hon Martins Udo Inyang has described his removal as illegal without any effect on the party machinery in the state.

In a telephone interview with our Reporter , Udo Inyang said those that masterminded his purported removal have no locus standi to sack and elected party Chairman adding he remains authentic chairman of Accord party in the state.
” How can you sack me that was duely elected by party members ? Even the party secretary Imeobong Udeng was suspended from the party before the election .
” A suspended secretary can not wake up one day and sack his chairman. Don’t mind them , I remained the Chairman of my great party ” he said.
