Abia teachers groan over unpaid salaries

With the harder bite and effect of the economic crunch on the citizenry, the teachers in both Primary and Secondary School have down tools as a warning strike even as schools reopened on Monday April 18th 2016.

This warning strike it was gathered is only to drive home their grievances over the unpaid salary from February owed them, while those in Secondary School system dates back to January 2016

Though they shifted the resumption date a week ahead it was observed that it is a tactics by the government to work out the possibility of offsetting the arrears before the resumption date of 25th April 2016 which equally did not hold water

The state branch of The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) had no option but to embark on the 3-day warning strike when government trick failed.

When Daily Times called at the secretariat of the NUT at Awkuzu Lane/Enugu Road, Umuahia, the Abia state capital the union chairman Comrade Akparanta Chizobem was not on seat but sources close to the office who pleaded anonymity told Daily Times that Teachers have been warned to stay away until government reacts positively.

At Isieke Community High School along Bende Road the case is not different, just as a teacher who did not want her in print wept bitterly over the condition that teachers are passing through, stressing that we cannot feed, parentage or have adequate medical care.
