Breaking: Nollywood actor stabs co-tenant to death over electricity bill

A Nollywood actor,Temitayo Philips, has allegedly stabbed a co-tenant to death during an argument on the payment of electricity bill.

The incident which happened at No. 4, Sebi Kezeem Street, Cele-Egbe, Ikotun, was reported at the Ikotun Police Division.

It was gathered that one Banjo Lateef, and the deceased, Oladotun Opeyemi, had approached Philips, who owed N21, 500, to pay his bill.

Philips who was not pleased with the visit, harassed the men, an action which led to a fight between Philips and Opeyemi.

It was during the fight that the actor picked up a kitchen knife, and stabbed the deceased on the chest.

Opeyemi lost much blood and died shortly afterwards.

Lateef who spoke on how the incident played out said: “ I, Philips, and Opeyemi lived in same compound, and our electricity bill had accumulated. When the bill for April came, we agreed we wound raise a good amount of money for payment to avoid been disconnected. We shared the money accordingly, Philips, who we fondly calk Temi, was owing N21,500.

“ The neighbours recommended his light be cut off, but I pleaded they allow me talk to him. I assured them he would pay once I make him see reasons. I went to his house with Opeyemi, and we knocked on the door.

“He responded and when we told him our mission he came out and started insulting us. He asked if we were police officers to be questioning him over the non-payment of bill.

“ The argument led to a fight, and Philips stabbed Opeyemi.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Elkana Bala, a Deputy Superintendent of Police was contacted for comments on the matter.

Bala did not respond to several phone calls to his mobile phone number. A text message was also sent but as at the time of filing this report, he was yet to respond.
