UniAbuja Council seeks FG’s intervention on abandoned projects

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council University of Abuja, Alhaji Sani Maikudi, has disclosed that the Council will seek the intervention of the Federal Government and other interventionist agencies involved in the construction of projects at the university to facilitate the completion of the projects.

He regretted that most of the projects on the university campuses had now stopped for one reason or the other and were far behind their completion periods with serious consequences for the planned development of the institution.

Alhaji Sani, who dropped the hint while addressing staff of academic departments and units during a facility tour of the university by members of the Governing Council recently, said that there was a serious facility deficit which must be addressed if the institution was to realize its full potentials.

He commended agencies like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), TETFund, and others for the great work being undertaken in the university and regretted that work had temporarily stopped on some of the intervention projects which the Council will seek continuation of.

The Council chairman said that university of Abuja was the foremost public institution in the nation’s capital and the first port of call for foreign visitors wanting to acquaint themselves physically with the country’s education at that level which makes it imperative for its managers to strive to raise its status beyond the current level.

The Council chairman also noted that most of the complaints by the academic units would be drastically reduced if the efforts of Council to have the uncompleted projects functional and get more private sector involvement in the provision of infrastructure and services paid off.

While commending the university staff for their commitment to the system, he called on them to rededicate themselves towards the drive by Council to widen to the horizon of the university through a guided partnership with the private sector where all stakeholders will feel the impact of the institution.
