4,176 youths trained under FADAMA

About 4,176 unemployed graduates have been trained under the FADAMA Graduate Unemployed Youth Support Enterprise Development in Agriculture (FADAMA GUYS) in 23 states across the nation.
The FADAMA National Coordinator, Dr. Tayo Adewumi disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the training of 300 FADAMA GUYS in Minna said that the programme was launched to reduce the level of redundancy in the country as a result of high rate of unemployed youths.
According to him, unemployment amongst the youths has become a worrisome decimal in the nation as youths who graduate from tertiary institutions find themselves without jobs.
“Unemployment has become a worrisome trend in the nation and this creates a lot of worries for the youths which in turn lead to suicide, depression and increase in crime rate in the nation.”
Adewumi who was represented by the Project Training Officer, Alhaji Goni Malah Bukar said that there are plans to involve more youths and more states in the next phase of the programme.
He stated that the Trainees would be given starter kits according to their business plans urging them to make judicious use of the grants given to them and not to divert it into other personal use.
The State FADAMA Coordinator, Engineer Aliyu Usman Kutigi said that three tertiary institutions in Niger state, the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University (IBBUL), Lapai, Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna and Niger state College of Agriculture, Mokwa were used as a platforms for the training.
He added that the training were designed to avail the trainees the opportunities of livelihood and self reliance in order to cope with the challenges if the economy being faced in the country urging them to make their contributions to the realisation of the federal government aspiration of job creation and food security.
The Niger state Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Kabiru Musa Abbas noted that the programme was in line with the development goal of the state government would go a long way in generating employment in the state.
